Reshape Your Eyelids With Blepharoplasty Surgery

People all across the UK, including Manchester, Bolton, Liverpool and beyond are choosing to reshape their eyelids with blepharoplasty surgery. This is carried out by tightening the soft tissue and skin of the eyelids.

As people age, their skin becomes less elastic. This is more noticeable in smaller regions of the body, especially the eyes and face.
Gravity also pulls down on the soft tissue and skin of the eyes.
Reshaping and repositioning the tissue around the eyes is a common surgical procedure carried out to restore youth and build self confidence.

So what happens during eyelid surgery?

Eyelid surgery can be done using local anaesthetic, which is injected in to the eyelids and sometimes surrounding areas. However, it can also be carried out under general anaesthetic depending on the procedure being performed and the extent of the surgery.

blepharoplasty - eyelid surgery

On average it takes around one and a half hours to complete.
Incisions are made by your surgeon in the skin creases and lines that are natural to your face.
Excess skin and fat tissue is then removed and the cut is closed using fine stitches.

What to expect after eyelid surgery

  • If the cosmetic surgery on your eyes only requires you to have local anaesthetic, you will be able to return home after a few hours post-surgery.
  • However, if you have general anaesthetic, you will need to wait until the effects have worn off before you will be allowed home.
  • In some cases, an overnight stay may be required for immediate aftercare and observation.
  • Pain relief will also be provided to coincide with the anaesthetic wearing off.
  • Patients should expect to experience some bruising and swelling following blepharoplasty surgery
  • whereby cold compresses can be used to combat symptoms.
  • Each operation is different and aftercare will be tailored to suit your individual needs.
  • In addition, some patients report itchy or dry eyes following surgery along with light sensitivity, watering eyes and blurred vision.
  • After around 5 days, you will need to return to your clinic to have any stitches removed, unless dissolvable stitches are used.
  • In the days that follow your operation, you will be given a recommended aftercare plan to aid recovery and ensure you get the most out of your procedure.

This can include;

– Avoiding bending forward or down
– Avoiding the use of make-up until advised
– Ensuring your head is kept upright for 3-4 days
– Sleeping in an upright position
– Avoiding anything other than water to clean the eyes

In the event of experiencing blurred vision as a side effect, patients are not to drive until vision is clear.

If you experience bruising or swelling that looks severe, do not be alarmed.

Both swelling and bruising can get worse for up to 2 days after your operation. Whilst black-eyes may be worrying at first, this is common and can disappear quickly after the third day post surgery.

However, if you have any concerns at all, speak to us for guidance and peace of mind at any point during your aftercare plan.

Make-up and Contact Lenses

If you like to wear make-up or require the use of contact lenses, you should avoid doing so for around 5 days for make-up and 10 days for contacts.
