Dr Ridwan Mia is a plastic, aesthetic and reconstructive surgeon. A GMC registered medical doctor, he specialised in Plastic and Reconstructive surgery at the University of the Witwatersrand and holds a fellowship with the College of Plastic Surgeons of South Africa.
He is a previous winner of the best research paper for work done on collagen and wound healing, as well as a prize winner at the Burt Myburg surgical research forum at the University of the Witwatersrand, Johannesburg, South Africa.
Dr Mia was a consultant at the university’s medical school, teaching plastic surgery before moving to private practice for the past 12 years in South Africa and the United Kingdom. He has always had a keen interest in hand surgery, post cancer reconstructive surgery, cleft lip and palate surgery as well as the management of burn injuries in addition to aesthetic surgical procedures. Now resident in the United Kingdom he has established himself as a respected plastic surgeon in the field of cosmetic surgery, aesthetics, anti aging, breast and facial and body contouring surgery.
He has been a board member of the Cure Day Hospital in Fourways, Johannesburg for the past 4 years and is a trustee on the burns charity Children of Fire. In addition he is an active member of the Smile foundation which operates on young children with facial and hand deformities. Dr Mia is also well known for his charitable and philanthropic work and is a trustee of the World Memon Organisation, a social and community charity, in addition to being the brand ambassador of Project Distinction, a school learner incentive programme.
Dr Mia was awarded the National Order of the Baobab in April 2013 by the President of South Africa after he made world headlines for a ground breaking procedure done on a young child where skin was cloned to cover her extensive burn wounds.
He regularly delivers lectures and talks to corporate, social and career guidance groups, schools and universities regarding life experience, motivation, social and health issues. He has much experience in advising, coordinating and judging of cultural, beauty and fashion related events.
